Lymph nodes are small glands throughout the body which carry fluid, nutrients, and body waste from the body tissue and the blood stream. Lymph nodes are an integral part of the body’s immune system. The nodes filter fluid as it goes through the body- trapping bacteria, viruses, and foreign materials. The trapped material is then destroyed by lymphocytes.

Why do the Lymph Nodes swell?

As trapped bacteria, viruses, and foreign materials are collected, cells called lymphocytes are released into the nodes to destroy the foreign material, naturally causing lymph nodes to swell.
